The Download Festival announced its first batch of bands today, including one of the headliners AC/DC and also Stone Temple Pilots among others. Only ONE headliner was announced today and there are still two more headliners and many other bands to be announced in the next couple of weeks. PearlJam.com forum member Brisk is saying Soundgarden will be revealed as one of the headliners and that Alice In Chains also are rumored to be added. He mentions that AC/DC will headline Sunday, with Metallica headlining Friday. This makes it likely that Soundgarden will headline Saturday if Brisk’s sources are indeed correct (I’m hoping so!). He also says there is a possibility that Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice In Chains could all play the same day.

Big shot concert promoter Jim Koplik (who has promoted shows for The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and many others) stated in an interview last week in a podcast on WCCC.com that Soundgarden will indeed be touring the United States this summer. The host and Koplik talk about Matt Cameron and the host brings up the rumored Soundgarden reunion, “And that is correct, you’re right, the drummer will be playing with Soundgarden.”

Koplik also mentions that Pearl Jam had shows scheduled for May and June but scrapped them, but they are in talks to do a rescheduled show in New York but that nothing is certain regarding their US tour plans.

Koplik also mentions Stone Temple Pilots touring plans, he says he is in talks with the band to have them play at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wallingford, Connecticut on Memorial Day weekend. This indicates that the Pilots 2010 Tour of the US will be underway in May, when their new album comes out.

Po 1, powstał twitter zespołu (nie wiem po co, nie pytajcie mnie - może dlatego, że ten zespół nigdy nie miał rzetelnej strony internetowej ani strony szybkiego informowania i się rozpędzili) - http://twitter.com/soundgarden , po 2 można sobie ściągnąć wykonanie live z 1996 (ergo jedno z ostatnich) po zalogowaniu - "Spoonman" (imo niezłe), po 3 można sobie kupić z tego co zrozumiałam ze swoją powalającą znajomością angielskiego winyl 7''' z "Hunted Down" i "Nothing to Say" (niezła gratka dla fanów, te ich piosenki są świetne).
Czyli zaczynamy małe zarabianko na reaktywacji ;)

Scott e-mailed this to me, I was hesitant to post it until I saw that two separate people with different sources had posted this rumor on Twitter yesterday which makes me think it could have some truth to it, here it is:

I think this would make a lot of sense. Chris Cornell has been spotted in Seattle over the last couple of months, and Soundgarden have barely said anything since announcing their reunion in January, which would insinuate they’re working on something top secret. It also could be the reason Pearl Jam won’t tour until May.

Rumors have been running rampant on Twitter since yesterday that Soundgarden will be a surprise performer at SXSW tonight in Austin, Texas. Remember, like with all Soundgarden rumors, don’t ever get your hopes up. I’m just reporting what I see. Cornell also tweeted a very vague statement yesterday, “Everyone make a thousand wishes in the dark.” Keep in mind SXSW goes until Sunday so it could be on Saturday or Sunday. Here are some tweets:

ROLLING STONE WRITER GREG PRATO GIVES HIS EXCLUSIVE THOUGHTS ON SOUNDGARDEN’S REUNION

I recently spoke to Grunge is Dead author and Rolling Stone writer Greg Prato about Soundgarden’s reunion. I previously interviewed Greg on GrungeReport.net last August, you can read that in the Interviews section.

Did Kim or anybody give any indication that Soundgarden might reunite in recent years?

Kim didn’t in particular, but when I interviewed Ben for ‘Grunge is Dead,’ he mentioned something to the effect that if Soundgarden were to get back together one day, that they could pick up exactly where they left off musically. I would have to wholeheartedly agree.

Were you personally surprised by the reunion announcement, what do you think it will do for their legacy?

Not totally surprised, as I know that 3/4’s of the band played together in 2009 w/ Tad Doyle on vocals, and I heard through the grapevine that Chris and the band were on good terms once more. And when I interviewed Kim last year for a Rolling Stone.com article, he didn’t totally rule out the possibility of a Soundgarden reunion. As far as what Soundgarden reuniting will do for their legacy, I have no idea – only time will tell. But I can say as a fan that I’m very excited about the possibility of seeing Soundgarden live once more (haven’t seen them since the summer of ‘94).

Have you heard any talk of new material and what Soundgarden’s future might be? Do you see this being a long term reunion and do you think new Soundgarden material could match up to the old classics?

Haven’t heard of any talk of material, and don’t know if it’s a long term reunion or not. When I spoke to Kim for that aforementioned RS.com article, we discussed the possibility of Soundgarden putting out a boxset of unreleased/rare material – he even went as far as listing song titles of unreleased ditties and what they sound like (I would have included the link to the article here, but the RS.com site is in the midst of an overhaul, and I can’t access the article at this moment, should be back online in a few days).

Do you see Matt Cameron possibly leaving Pearl Jam to commit to Soundgarden full time?

I can’t really say, as I’m not Mr. Cameron (haha). But again, only time will tell…

Are you ready to admit that, contrary to the title of your great book “Grunge is Dead”, Grunge is alive?

The title of the book came from a shirt that Kurt Cobain was once wearing in a photo, that said “grunge is dead,” so it’s not that the book title was meant to be taken literally. But if saying that grunge is alive once more means that the majority of today’s stinky rock bands will be flushed down the toilet and it will stop all this ’80s hair-metal nostalgic nonsense…then by all means,

It was great seeing Eddie hanging out with the guys at the hotel after soundcheck, and better yet hearing him backstage after the concert telling CC how great the concert was! As the pioneers of the Seattle scene, Soundgarden paved the way for guys like Eddie to do what they do & it’s always nice when they can come together. Over the years both CC and Eddie have shown their support for one another, just like when CC joined PJ on stage for Hunger Strike in LA last October. After that show Eddie had mentioned how impressed he was with the strength of CC’s voice, and after Friday’s show, Soundgarden proved they still ROCK!

I saw Eddie making his way to the venue with Adam Kasper who apparently was in the studio with the guys working on stuff and the release of the Spoonman track. I also saw Jeff, Stone, and Shawn Smith throughout the night. Overall it was a great night and its nice that so many guys came out to support the band.
