Co do "Nearly Lost You" to jestem skołowany, nawet sobie nie wyobrażałem tego ze Staleyowską maniera śpiewu a co dopiero z samym Lane'em :D

Mike Starr talks about a “friend” who died. This friend appears to be Layne Staley.

“I was trying to keep him alive all day but I didn’t know the extent of his disease.” Starr responded that the friend said his body was shutting down. Staley had stated a few months prior in an interview with author Adriana Rubio that he knew he was dying and his body was shutting down. Starr said he left for a few hours because he was on Xanax and didn’t have the right frame of mind. He said he blacked out for a couple of weeks and then his friend’s body was found. He mentions specifically that the friend sat dead for a couple of weeks. Layne Staley’s body wasn’t found until two weeks after his passing.

There have been long standing rumors online that Mike Starr visited Layne Staley on April 4, 2002 to celebrate his (Starr’s) birthday, and that Starr was present the night Staley died.

MIKE STARR DESCRIBES LAYNE STALEY’S FINAL DAY AND REVEALS HIS LAST WORDS

Last night’s Celebrity Rehab started with Drew mentioning Mike still not getting over some traumatic things that happened to him in the past like getting kicked out of Alice In Chains and Layne Staley dying. Mike is then shown listening to headphones and the resident tech Shelly asks Mike what he’s listening to. First he says himself, then he says my singer. He says he’s listened to it a lot and then he says:

“And then my singer dies, and then the only way I can hear him is through this. That’s why I listen to it. It takes me back to where Layne was alive, and I’m lucky. I got to play with him as long as I did.”

Layne Staley’s mother Nancy Layne McCallum also appeared on yesterday’s episode of Celebrity Rehab. First she addressed the group and described the finality of death and how when your addict is gone, they’re gone. She said there is no more hope. Nancy mentioned how she didn’t want anybody else to go through what she went through. This was pretty gut wrenching to watch and definitely a powerful speech that got me very emotional watching it.

After Nancy’s speech she talked to Mike with Mike’s family and Dr. Drew present. This is where Mike revealed the details behind Layne Staley’s final day and what his last words were, if I got a few things wrong including the drug name please say so in the comments section:

MIKE: I wish I would’ve called 911 that day. I wish I would’ve known he was dying. I wish I would have called 911, he told me if I did he would never talk to me again but there’s no excuses I should have done that anyways. And I wish I wouldn’t have been on benzodiazepine, that way I just walked out the door.

NANCY: Did you see Layne die?

MIKE: No, I didn’t see Layne die. I just went over to his house, and he just said I’m sick you know, and I said I’d come back, I said I’d come back. I went home and I blacked out on benzodiazepine. I just blacked out for the whole 2 weeks, remember Mom I was laying in your back basement.

MIKE’S MOM: You said he [Layne] he got kind of agitated, he wanted to be alone for awhile, do you remember that?

MIKE: He was agitated because I was too high, he used to be mad at me when I took them, he’d be like you’re an idiot on these pills. Then I got mad at him and I said, fine I’ll just leave and his last words to me were not like this, don’t leave like this. I just left him sitting there, his last words to me were not like this, I can’t believe that, I’m so ashamed of that.

Mike then apologizes to Nancy.

MIKE: I’m sorry I did that Nancy.

NANCY: You know Mike, He could’ve called 911.

MIKE: He wouldn’t call 911 at all, I don’t know why he would not call that number.

NANCY: Because he was embarrassed, a beautiful man with huge talent had squandered his life and his talents and that’s not a judgment, that’s just a statement and fact and he knew that, and that’s a horrible thing but I don’t blame you and I never have.

DR. DREW: Mike your life could be saved as a tribute to his. You could get sober, that’s what he would want.

NANCY: That’s why I’m here, he cared about you and he would be here for you if he could. Layne would forgive you; he would say hey I did this, not you.

NANCY: You hang in there. Layne would want that.
